Joe Biden call to Kamala Harris

A controversy has emerged regarding the authenticity of Joe Biden’s phone call to Kamala Harris, during her speech to campaign staff members in Delaware. Allegations have circulated that this call was a deepfake, artificially generated using advanced AI technology. Our analysis, using cutting-edge deepfake detection technology, aims to address these claims and provide clarity on this important matter.

The following audio clip was extracted from CSPAN and was used to conduct the analysis.

Transcript: “I know yesterday’s news was surprising and uh it was hard for you to hear, but it was the right thing to do. It’s uh I I I know it’s hard because you’ve poured your heart and soul into me.”

Deepfake Allegations and Our Analysis

Claims have surfaced suggesting that this call was not authentic, but rather a deepfake created using ElevenLabs’ voice AI technology. These allegations, if true, would undermine the integrity of a key moment in recent political history. However, our advanced deepfake detection model, Resemble Detect, has determined that these claims are unfounded given audio extracted from the CSPAN broadcast.

Analysis from Resemble AI’s DETECT-2B model indicates that the audio from CSPAN is not AI Generated.

As shown in the image above, our Detect model analyzed the audio of the Biden-Harris call with high confidence, concluding that it is indeed authentic. The results demonstrate a strong indication that the call was not artificially generated or manipulated.

Resemble’s Detect model is a state-of-the-art deepfake detection system trained on a vast array of AI-generated voices and various audio codecs. This comprehensive training allows Detect to identify subtle artifacts and inconsistencies that might be present in synthetic audio, even when they’re imperceptible to the human ear.

Corroborating Evidence

To further validate our findings, we didn’t stop at our own analysis. Given that the allegations specifically mentioned ElevenLabs as the supposed source of the deepfake, we decided to put their technology to the test as well. Using ElevenLabs’ own speech classifier, we analyzed the audio of the Biden-Harris call.

The results from ElevenLabs’ classifier aligned perfectly with our Detect model’s conclusion: the call is not a product of AI voice synthesis. This additional layer of verification, using technology from the very company alleged to be behind the deepfake, provides even stronger evidence of the call’s authenticity.

By leveraging multiple detection methods, including technology from the accused source itself, we’ve created a robust, multi-faceted approach to verifying the authenticity of this historic call. This comprehensive analysis leaves little room for doubt: the Biden-Harris call was genuine.

Conclusion and Next Steps

In an era where digital manipulation is becoming increasingly sophisticated, tools like Resemble Detect are crucial for maintaining the integrity of our shared reality. Whether it’s historic political moments or everyday communications, the ability to distinguish between authentic and artificially generated content is more important than ever.

The case of the Biden-Harris call serves as a powerful reminder of the need for vigilance and advanced technological solutions in our fight against misinformation. It also underscores the responsibility we all share in verifying information before spreading it.
